CAMPIELLO, ISLE OF WIGHT
The company who insured the 30's bungalow that was slowly subsiding on this
site made our client an offer he couldn't refuse. He decided that what he
needed instead was a four-storey Gothick Follie complete with billiards
room, boathouse and a lookout tower. Charles Jarvis of Westbury, the
world's most gifted and long-suffering craftsman, spent five years
reassembling stone window cases salvaged from Victorian lunatic Asylums,
cast iron tracery from Edwardian seaside piers and wormed sections of
Mediaeval pew panels to create this extraordinary house which is beginning
to look as if it's been there for ever. |
